The Great Nail Polish Caper

Last week, my sister, Mirinda, moved in with us. We had the room, she wanted an adventure. (At least she thought she did...) And, the girls love their Auntie MooMoo. Kallie has been in absolute heaven since MooMoo moved in, too. She now has a distraction when she wants to do something other than mom and dad have requested. Along with the fun, however, has come a new set of rules, such as, you must ALWAYS knock and wait for a response before entering, you must stay out of MooMoo's room, and you must ask for permission before using MooMoo's things. I must say, the learning curve has been quick, but there have been a few bumps along the way.

For example, last week, when MooMoo came home from the store after the girls were in bed, she left her purse downstairs. I saw the purse and thought I should put it somewhere less accessible to the girls, but didn't worry too much because of the new rules. The next morning, MooMoo was sleeping and I was upstairs working on a blog. When I went downstairs a few minutes later, I literally caught Kallie red-handed breaking one of the rules. She had painted her fingernails and toenails a lovely shade of pinkish-red, which she had discovered in Auntie MooMoo's purse. Had this been the extent of it, Kallie would have earned a time-out, but not much else. Unfortunately, there were also splatters and drops of the lovely bright polish on our light-colored carpet and a large, glossy puddle in MooMoo's purse.

I immediately put Kallie in time-out while deciding what else to do with her. Whitney followed the example of Big Sis, and had also dabbled in the polish. She joined Kallie in the time-out area for a few minutes. After consulting my husband about Kallie and the internet about the polish, Kallie was sent to her room while I scrubbed the carpet. I was amazed to discover that window cleaner gets even bright pinkish-red polish out of light colored carpet. It took me a full hour to clean the carpet--the entirety of which Kallie spent in her bedroom. MooMoo's purse was a complete loss, however, and she had to buy a new, extremely cute, red purse to replace the old black and used-to-be-white zebra-themed bag. The end result of which did not disappoint her.

The next morning, Whitney was carrying around her beloved "Brianna Dolly". She took off Brianna's shoes, only to see that the plastic toes were sporting a bright red pedicure. As soon as Whitney saw the toes, she said, "Oh no! Brianna got into MooMoo's things!" and then she put Brianna on the time-out chair for a few minutes. I couldn't stop laughing about it! At least something was learned from the stresses of the day before!

I think this is the most darling thing Whitney has done! I'm happy you were able to get all the polish out of the carpet! You'll have to ask Spencer what HE did last night while changing a diaper . . . We miss you!

That sounds like something I would have done. If it is a big deal like that and I am not sure exactly what to do, I just put Owen in time out in his room until I figure it out and if the time out was long enough I'll leave it to that.

Dealing with that pregnant must not have been fun. I hope you are coping with the move, sounds like a house guest as well, and a pregnancy. You are wonderful.

Nice carpet cleaning idea. Where did you search online - did you just google it? We have some caked on rubber cement on our carpet that I need to get out. Yes...it was my fault :).

He he, this story had me laughing and my kids wondering what was so funny (I don't dare tell them.) It is amazing what kinds of things you can get out of light colored carpet. But in my personal opinion whoever invented it should suffer.

You are such a good mommy, I seriously would have lost my cool if my kids did that.
Good job getting it out of the carpet, I never would have imagined window cleaner working on that kind of mess.

oh the end of that story is hilarious! what a smart and silly girl! sorry about the nail polish, you certainly get to test out all kinds of ways to get different things out of carpets and other surfaces, you do all the hard work for us, so that we now know how to get that stuff out when it happens to us! ;0)

That is an adventure with an aunt around. I will now always know that Windex will take out nail polish. I'm sure you can imagine the capers we have had with all the nail polish in our house. Some of which are still there because I didn't know what to do. Good job staying calm.

You've got to love the things you can find out on the internet! And how fun for your girls to have their aunt living with them. I'm sure it's fun for her too...even if they do mess things up sometimes!

OH MY!! Kids are an adventure. Thank goodness AuntieMooMoo was cool with it. I did a post on my tips blog about nail polish remover. Barbosal (unscented, basic) shaving cream does wonders on nail polish too, even dried polish. You don't have to clean it up after either, it just moisturizes the carpet. I'm glad all is well now and it sounds like she might've learned her lesson.

How fun having your sister there though!
