Butt the Guinea Pig

I don't know about the rest of you, but when I read stories to my kids, I usually create a different voice for each character. Sometimes, I speak with an accent (usually a HORRIBLE accent), and since the words sound a little different, I wonder if my kids understand what is going on.

Well, yesterday, my kids were watching Charlie and Lola. In this particular episode, the brother and sister team were playing with Charlie's guinea pig, Bert. At some point during the cartoon, Kallie started commenting about Butt, Charlie's guinea pig. I cracked up and tried to explain to her that Charlie and Lola have a different accent than we do, and when they say, "Buhh-t", they're really saying, "Bert." She didn't quite get it and was adamant that it was Butt, the guinea pig. After all was said and done, Kallie finally understood that Butt was really Bert and that people from different places just pronounce things differently. And, I decided that maybe my kids aren't quite ready for my horrible attempts at accents during story time anymore.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who creates those accents during story time. (Mine are pretty terrible, too!) Maybe I better scale them back a little. :) That story made me laugh. Hope you guys are doing well!!

Watch out when you let them watch Mary Poppins! They may think it's a story about Mary Poopins, the Nanny, and Butt, the Chimney Sweep.

Haha!

That was funny. Owen has an accent of his own. The other day he said "set!" as in all set. Well he says his "s" sound sometimes with an "sh." Sounded a lot like a swear word to me before I finally understood what he meant.

What is so funny is that when my husband talks about Mary Poppins and Bert he says it in a silly english accent and they always correct him saying his name is Bert. I was too horrible at accents to try. How funny!

Hey has your table arrived? I'm getting so excited for you!

I love that Charlie and Lola show. We don't get Disney and nothing on our lame cable is exotic enough for accents. You know. Hahaha, Butt, the guinea pig. I love it.
